Common sea-buckthorn (Hippophaes rhamnoides), also called a Siberian pineapple, is a thorny, dioecious shrub in the oleaster family (Elaeagnaceae) growing up to 7 m high. SBT is traditionally used for the treatment of several ailments and is well documented in ancient texts including Greek texts, Ayurveda, classic and Tibetan medicinal literature from the time of the Tang Dynasty . The highly nutritious ingredients of common sea-buckthorn berries have been found to have applications in medicine, namely, for the treatment of inflammations, cancers and also as an adjunctive treatment after chemotherapy.
